Police hunt thieves after A1 CCTV cameras cables sethered

North yorkshire Police are trying to trace the occupants of a white van which resembled a vehicle used by genuine highways workers. The Van was seen in the area At around 8.25pm on Wednesday.
thousands of pounds worth of plant machinery were stolen after cables were cut that knocked out CCTV cameras on the A1. Police checked CCTV traffic cameras for the A1 Leeming to Barton stretch which is currently being upgraded to motorway standard, only to find someone had cut cables near Scotch Corner meaning all cameras on the stretch were out. Officers are also investigating links to the theft of a compressor unit which was stolen from a bridge over the A1 near Catterick at about 6.30pm on Tuesday this week. Police say a white van with Two men wearing luminous jackets got out and put the equipment in the back before driving off. The theft took place despite construction workers working on the road nearby. Anyone with information should call North Yorkshire Police on 101.
